Ponnam suspects Naidu's commitment on BC's


Hyderabad, July 10 (INN): Hailing the Telugu Desam party move to allot 100 Assembly seats and proposing a separate budget for Backward class communities in 2014 general elections, Congress MPs Forum convener Ponnam Prabhakhar asked TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu to allot either Party President or Opposition Leader post to BCs as part of showing his commitment.

Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party office, he suspected the commitment of Naidu and asked him to give explanation over welfare of BCs during his stint of nine years. Accusing Naidu of resorted to arrest of BC leaders during his stint when they pressed for increase in scholarships of students, he said that now he was questioning the government for increase in scholarships. �This clearly exposes his double speak and opportunism,� Ponnam said.
Though Naidu announcing sops to BCs with an eye on 2014 general elections and to attract their vote bank, he said, however, the people are not in a position to believe him. Reiterating that the Congress party gave priority for BCs, Ponnam said that the government has been spending thousands of crores as part of reimbursement of fee on BC students. Ponnam said that the Ministerial committee appointed to revive party in Telangana region, should give priority for resolving the statehood issue. If the committee resolves the bifurcation of state issue, he expressed confidence that the party would get its past glory in the Telangana region. He said that the committee should find ways and means to tackle YSR Congress Party president Jagan Mohan Reddy in the Seemandra region.
Ponnam also appealed to government to extend legal aid to former excise minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, who involved in issue of controversial GOs favouring amassing of wealth by Jagan. (INN)
